03History
The mambises of Cuba's Ten Years' War (1868–78) drank aguardiente with honey and lime as a field restorative. Trinidad claims it as the town drink — served in clay cups called jicaras.
It is Cuba before the cocktail age: no strainer, no shaker, just survival.
Origin contested — the entry keeps verified record and received legend distinct.
