03History
2001, VinExpo in Bordeaux. London bartender Wayne Collins improvised for a friend whose minibar lacked both Campari and rosso vermouth: Suze for the bitterness, Lillet Blanc for the wine, gin to hold it up.
The drink wandered for a decade in the shadow of its parent. It was the 2010s vermouth revival — and Audrey Saunders' version at Pegu Club — that made bartenders take it seriously.
Unlike the Sbagliato, the White Negroni is a deliberate construction: a French translation, not a mistake.
