03History
Limmer's Hotel on Conduit Street had a head waiter named John Collins; the gin punch named for him travelled to America and met Old Tom gin there. The IBA spec still calls genever/Old Tom — 'Tom' arrived when drinkers switched to London dry.
Same drink, different gin: the name tracks the spirit.
Origin contested — the entry keeps verified record and received legend distinct.
