03History
The name is a wager: Monte Carlo the casino town — the drink belongs to the same turn-of-the-century hotel-bar school as the Waldorf and Manhattan.
Bénédictine is the whole trick: 27 herbs and honey in one bottle, giving the Old Fashioned shape a French accent.
Origin contested — the entry keeps verified record and received legend distinct.
