03History

Printed in the 1930 Savoy book — equal parts four ingredients, a formula as balanced as the title is dramatic.

The Scotch makes it unusual: the only major classic to use it at full strength in a fruity frame. It works because Heering and vermouth meet the whisky on its own smoky ground.

Origin contested — the entry keeps verified record and received legend distinct.
